Case 220 Hydraulic Drive Issue

Hi, Just had the Kohler motor rebuilt on my Case 220 tractor, reinstalled it and changed the oil in the rear end with about a pint of Valvoline 20W50 oil and also changed the hydraulic oil, replacing it with Rotella 15W40 oil, filling the reservoir to within 6 inches of the top of the filler neck per the manual. When I operate the tractor now, the engine loads up and bogs down when travelling in the forward or reverse direction. This happens after running the tractor for about 5 minutes or so. The engine does not seem to bog down when I just run the engine but do not engage the hydraulic drive, only when the hydraulic drive is engaged. I am wondering if anyone here has any idea what might be causing this? I followed the directions in the manual for changing the hydraulic and rear end oil but I am wondering if maybe I have gotten air in the hydraulic system while pumping out the old hydraulic oil or something like that. If anyone has any experience with this situation, would appreciate your thoughts on the subject. Thanks in advance.

The hyd system is self bleeding no way to get any trapped air,, you say you drained the rear end oil and only added a pint? it holds three quarts,, unless you dropped something on the hyd tank which is covering the intake I see not reason for the engine to pull down, if you only put about a pint int he rear end you could be having bearings tie up I guess,, does it load the engine with the range lever in "N" and you move the FWD/REV lever?

Hi Case Nutty 1660, Thanks for the reply. Per the manual, this rear end only takes a pint. It has 3 plugs in the casting, 1 to fill, one to drain and one to set the level of fill. I filled it until oil started to run out the fill level hole. I need to do a little more trouble shooting to actually verify that it is a hydraulic issue. As I mentioned, it is a new rebuild so I am going to try running it for a time with no load on the engine to see what happens. I will post more after I do that. Thanks again!

I have setup hundreds of them new, I own 8 of them today,, not sure where you are getting your info here is what they hold, by the way I have changed oil in lots of them,, all of them took 3 quarts maybe you did not get it all drained out,,,
