I'm a little scared I may be run off. Needed a rotary hoe to break up the crust I get on the heavy ground after rains. Found this one for a good price.

Please don't ban or shun me, I am looking for a case one but just couldn't wait.

Any advice on how to run it? I've heard the proper way is to go as fast as you can and don't look back. But anyone with experience to share would be helpful

Jon,

Just paint over those forbidden words and tell folks it's from the 40's or 50's. It's close enough to the Case implement green that was used in that era.

All I can say is please, please be careful turning with those damn cable tie hitch setups. They have a way of crawling up your tires when you least expect it and can hurt or kill you. You will get too close to something such as a fence and you'll turn sharper than usual to avoid it and that's when it gets you. You'll have your eye on the fence over the outside tire while the inside tire grabs the cable. I'd be concerned about an inexperienced family member running it especially if it's a youngster, although us old farts get in trouble too.

Never thought of that, and at that speed it could happen fast. I'll be careful. And thanks for that warning.

Jon, the neighbor had one for years and ran it with no problem. Yes the faster you go the better it worked. I have a 3 point hitch one now and have not used it in years. As you know I have very hard soil also. J erry from Ohio

You get a pass, this time:), You could add some weight to the hoe too, most around here had a box on to you could add dirt, also have seen railroad ties strapped on for weight, the warning on the cables is a good one, I hope it works well for you.

My brother and I got real lucky, we piled a drag up on the wheel of a tractor once. He was riding on the fender and I put the chains pulling a drag on his back. Nobody got hurt but darn scaring for a couple of kids. Sure happened fast.

It is very close to Case green. I have a
set of hoes that could match right up to
those but they have Old Abe cast into lots
of parts.

Dad had a JD400 hoe for years. Pulled it with a Cockshutt 570super. Road gear as fast as I could stay on the tractor. Probably about 16 mph. Dirty job.

Dad had one of those and we pulled it with a 300rn in 2nd high and 3rd high and later with a 530 till got the three point mount on it then it a 730 job. But the 1030 probably will not use any more fuel than a 300 would.

Three th
ings about that hoe. Skip a width as you turn and you will not get cables caught in the tires. Number two Do Not pull it across a waterway that has been mowed with a sickle bar mower. It will choke up and flip the hoe upside down. The Third one is: Do not run over a live ground hog with it. Digging it out is quite a mess.
I know all of this as hoeing was my favorite job as a youngster. We had an 830 case-o-matic diesel that we ran in road gear on hard packed ground.
