That only took 30 years...

After screwing around with the generator and voltage regulator, and after lifting my knee to mid chest height for 30 years, I finally got around to doing some work on one of my VACs. Welded up a bracket and adjuster for a Delco 10-SI alternator out of scrap I had lying around. Took some messing around but it works fine. Found an old hunk of 1/2" stock and welded up a simple step that bolts to to the foot board. I even thought to run beads to create a "diamond plate" effect to reduce slippage. I may be in for some sort of award for procrastination!

Thrty years ago you probably didn't need the step.

I have added "Grampy Steps" to most all my tractors. This old dog can't lift his leg
like he used to and that sudden stop when you jump of the last step seems to rattle
the few teeth that are left in my mouth..------------------------Loren

I am still shy of 70, but I got rid of my CA Allis and bought a VAC not because the Allis was a bad tractor, but because it was unhandy to get on and off and when you
were seated it was uncomfortable. Splayed out like riding in a sports car without the benefit of a bucket seat.

Those Allis engineers definitely ate out of a different box of Wheaties than the rest of the big tractor companies. The first page of the CA manual proudly proclaims, "This tractor does not have any grease zerks." All lubrication was done with light oil, except for the grease in the front wheel bearings. That made for a pretty efficient tractor when new but when they were old mine leaked like the TItanic.
