Today you could have bought a 1970 1170 Case for $920! Can someone on here tell me why there is such big difference in price between a 1970 Case 1170 and a 1970 Deere 4020??---Thanks Tee Really like that air cleaner--What will the Case owners think of next?
 Another view!

Part it and double your money was probably what the buyer was thinking. Looks don't mean much a lot of times.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. Cob Jobs like that just signal other F-U's. 1170's were never white over red either, and those elephant ear fenders on all Case 70 series tractors were god awful ugly on tractors with less than 23" wide rear tires or duals.----Loren

That is definitely a strange air cleaner setup. And you know what CASE stands for Can't Afford Something Else. All joking aside, I have an 1170 that I got for $1500 several years ago and it's a great tractor that gets used almost daily during the spring, summer and fall months pulling a 15 foot batwing mower.

Thats what they say it stands for. And yet you could probably buy 2 or 3 1170s anymore for the price of a powershift 4020 if you know where to look.

well growing up on basically 3 tractors, case 970/1070, massey 65 and john deere 3020/4020 I was able to outpull a jd with a case but the case cable controls were unreliable, and hard to use versus the jd linkage system, the jd is much easier to fuel with tank in front, those non adjustable tread rear ends were terrible for our type of farming, the power steering and brakes sucked on those 70 cases, and needed rebuilt often. those 70 cases had open center hydraulics, john deere 4020 had closed center, After all said and done I could probably do twice as much work with a 4020 just because of the features and advancement. Nothing against case, but just remember what you are buying when you want an all around tractor.

On the Road with Dave Gohl: Tractors and Farming - by Dave Gohl. I never thought I'd live to see the day, when I could call myself a farmer. What allows me to say this? Well, when our family moved to our 20 acre site near New Prague, Minnesota, I had one thought in mind. You guessed it, farm it somehow. A little history is in order. In my younger days, mom, dad and my brother made frequent visits to dad's youngest brother Pete, who took over the home farm from grandpa MIke. It was the typical set-up, milk cows, pigs & chickens. In the winter, we'd play
