Case 530 bell housing oil leak

Case 530 utility type tractor. Has a model 31 loader and model 31 backhoe. No rear pto. Has a hydraulic pump that runs off of the front of the engine. Has a dry clutch 8 spd with a shuttle shift. What would cause oil to be leaking out of the hollow tube that the input shaft runs through? I know little to nothing about these tractors but I believe the torque tube should be dry.

The leak is between the main drive shaft and the internal hydraulic pump drive shaft. You need to pull the hydraulic pump drive assembly out and replace seal 13 or 29 pending s/n on early 1960-1964 530 (link 1) or seal nr 52 on later 1965-1970 DOM 530 (link 2).

To remove the pump drive assembly, drain TT oil, unbolt cover and pull straight out, will be gasket stuck so tap loose. If you have an early 530 internal pump with lock out plunger (pic 2 under gas tank, right side) disengage the drive by pulling the plunger all the way out, it will be stuck tap it out gently.

Joe, the bottom link you show on your post the seal is in the correct location, the first link shows the seal out in front of the throw out bearing sleeve.

mEl, I don't understand what you are referring to. In the 1st link the aft seals 13 & 29 for respective early drive assemblies is in the same location as the later drive assembly seal 52 in the 2nd link. The seal(s) mentioned is the one that seals the main drive shaft from the hyd pump drive shaft.

His tractor has all the indications of being a very early 530. I think I can make out a spring on the hyd pump drive shaft aft of the release bearing in his pic,(Link 1: bottom drive assembly item 15, mislabeled valve spring). Spring like my pic of an older tractor here. That would make the his tractor prior sn 8191147, 1962 or earlier.

Lee, seal 1 & 17 is the housing seal to the hyd pump drive shaft. Seal 13 & 29 seals the void between the main drive shaft and the hyd pump drive shaft. When 13 or 29 leak the TT oil travels out between the main drive shaft & the hyd pump drive shaft and drips between the two shafts into the bell housing.

Anyway both 13 & 29 are the same part nr, can cross-ref and buy CR at Napa. The spring 15 (bottom assembly) on the hyd pump drive shaft behind the release bearing makes the tractor 1962 or earlier.

Looks to me like the G13816 seal pressed into the back of the drive gear is the leaky one , it is the same seal in either design, I would replace both obviously.

Yes that is correct mEl. I've been into several of the these drives, always renew both seals and if any doubt at all the bearing is renewed. Simple housing gasket can be cut out of 1/32" bulk oil gasket material any auto parts store.
