I may have seen this in the many Case Serial Tags I have looked at, but I don't remember the L behind the model number. Can anyone enlighten me on what it stands for? Thanks - Bob

I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE "L" ON THE SERIAL NUMBER PLATE BUT THE ONES WITH "H" DID INDICATE HIGH SPEED. FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GEAR WAS NORMAL, ONLY THE FOURTH WAS HIGH SPEED. IF YOU WERE PULLING A HEAVY LOAD SOMETIMES YOU HAD TO BE GOING DOWN HILL TO GET IT TO PULL BECAUSE THERE WAS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIRD AND FOURTH.

What does it mean when my 630 Diesel, COM has never had a serial tag (bought used from local CP&E in 1978) and has casting numbers ground off, no numbers in fly wheel area either. Just did complete restoration, would like some information on my tractor.

"L" means special low gearing, probably for vegetable farming or some such thing.
I've seen some with an "H" for high speed gears.

They used to indicate for the case-o-matic as well. The 630 diesel I'm referring to was actually stamped as 631-H-C as it was also a COM.
I tried pretty hard to purchase that tractor as it was a really nice original paint survivor. The new owner took it home from the auction and promptly ruined it with a back yard amateur paint job. So sad.
