Case 430 Power Steering

Hello!

I am looking for some advice. I recently acquired and older model Case 430 with the Power Assist Steering (remote Reservoir). The tractor is in amazing condition vice power steering issues. After doing some basic troubleshooting I am thinking that the pump is bad but cannot find the power assist pump anywhere. Does anybody know where I can Find one? If not is it possible to convert the tractor to integrated reservoir type? How would that be done?

Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

Are you saying you do not have a power steering pump just
forward of the distributor? Hoping you can be a little more
specific CM
Any chance you have a pump like this?

No I do not the early models have a ?power assist? configuration which has a remote reservoir and a steering pump just forward of the oil filter. I have included a picture. I am going to try to rig up a gauge to check the flow PSI but it would seem just from basic observation that the pump may be working. I only say this because on the positive flow hose it has a heavy vibration as if under high pressure.

Before going about changing pump style does this tractor have the steering cylinder with the valve integrated on the end? Heavy duty front axle type? Have you pulled the top off reservoir and checked the filter condition? I've had a few of this style over the years. Replace filter, top off with trans fluid or similar low viscosity hydraulic fluid to start with. Next bet would be the valve is having issues at the cylinder.

Thanks will try that adding a new filter...I pulled the
valve apart today there was definitely an o ring in
need of replacement. However I was concerned
because the spool was in pretty poor condition. Is
this type of valve and cylinder still made? Do you
happen to know where a replacement can be found
if necessary?

The link is to the parts for early 430 1960-64. The PA cylinder was used on the many Case utility tractor models. The filter element #43 p/n O10582AB subs to Case p/n A42242. I have bought several of those elements from NAPA but it has been more than a few years, I can't be sure of the Napa p/n. 2nd link is Wix cross-ref to p/n 51653, click on that nr will bring up specs, if specs look good drop, the 5 on Wix p/n is NAPA p/n.

I've repaired a few of these cylinders. I never bought any Case seal kits as shown on the parts site. I found some with o-ring seals on the spool that I always replaced with "V" type seals. Did your spool really have regular o-rings or V seals like the pic? Can you post a pic of the damage to your spool, maybe it can be cleaned up. Also what condition valve body spool bore. If there is any internal rust check the relief ball & cage clear. (pic)

There has been a guy posting here that he has exchange cylinders for something like $400 if I remember right and repair parts. You might want to search this site for contact info.
