case 380 not charging

Can anybody steer me in the right direction? I am working on my son in laws case 380 3cyl diesel charging system. The Lucas alternator doesn't charge. I have bypassed the regulator by jumping the 2 wires together, and there was 12 volts on the bat side of the regulator, and it didn't charge. The 2 wires on the back of the alternator both showed 12 volts with the key on. I have the alternator off and wonder if any of you guys have switched to a Delco 1 wire, or if I should try to find a new or rebuilt Lucas alternator. The tractor is used a couple times a week unloading a trailer and light shredding. Thanks in advance

I replaced a Lucas with a Delco on a Ford and works great. Hardest part is adapting the mounting brackets.

If you have an ammeter you can use a 1 wire Delco. If you have a charge indicator light get the 3 wire Delco and connect charge light to #1 pin on Delco to start it to charge. You can loop #2 pin down to output. With a 1 wire you will lose the charge light function.
