I traded a 3-14" BER for a 3-14" model M plow recently and have begun the restoration. I brought it down to 2 bottoms and removed the breakaway mast (it was stuck on there GOOD!)
All of the wear surfaces were worn out as well as the coulter blades so I dont have a problem playing around with some new things on this plow.
1st I am updating the coulters to Kinze planter hubs and coulters. We have done this before with another plow and it has worked extremely well.
2nd I am trying some poly moldboard covers. They bolt on over the existing moldboard to add a smooth surface that is supposed to always be scoured and pull 10-25% easier than traditional bottoms. These come as a kit for EX16 bottoms with a spacer that is bolted behind the shin and share to keep everything in line with one another. I have found out though that the EX16 and EX14 use the same moldboard bolt pattern and so the ploy moldboard will fit on the 14" with some overlap. I am considering calling the company that makes the poly moldboard and asking if they will make me some poly landsides as well as some poly moldboard extensions.
