The next plow build

I traded a 3-14" BER for a 3-14" model M plow recently and have begun the restoration. I brought it down to 2 bottoms and removed the breakaway mast (it was stuck on there GOOD!)
All of the wear surfaces were worn out as well as the coulter blades so I dont have a problem playing around with some new things on this plow.

1st I am updating the coulters to Kinze planter hubs and coulters. We have done this before with another plow and it has worked extremely well.

2nd I am trying some poly moldboard covers. They bolt on over the existing moldboard to add a smooth surface that is supposed to always be scoured and pull 10-25% easier than traditional bottoms. These come as a kit for EX16 bottoms with a spacer that is bolted behind the shin and share to keep everything in line with one another. I have found out though that the EX16 and EX14 use the same moldboard bolt pattern and so the ploy moldboard will fit on the 14" with some overlap. I am considering calling the company that makes the poly moldboard and asking if they will make me some poly landsides as well as some poly moldboard extensions.

Probably a good idea with the poly, but nothing looks more impressive than the shine of a well scoured plow (my opinion).

Looks like you have a great plan for the restoration and I look forward to seeing the finished product. I have a 3 bottom and we are having a difficult time getting the moldboards shined up. Might have to try the poly idea, Rod.

Boy is that deja vu! I did that to a 3x16 M series back in Sept I picked up. Mine is staying 3btm. The mast was froze on it as well plus I had to re-weld the side plates as they were cracked/broke where it bolts at the bottom. Got it all freed up and installed new bolts, still have to paint it and install new wear parts. Mine was missing all three coulter assemblies but had the mounting brackets, I have a parts A series that I took the concave coulter assemblies off and put on it but I think the first coulter will be to close to eagle hitch arm and cause problems. So I am on the look out for the regular style coulters. The cantilever style will not work as the mounting holes & shaft are different. Are you going to paint it back to green/flambeau? Is the poly from May-Wes? I think I am going to paint mine power red, except the tail wheel desert sunset but not decided yet. I will use it on the Big 400 thru 830 for plow days with a couple tractor clubs we belong to.

Make sure you get the coulters with the correct shaft height or you run the risk of damaging the coulter and clamp if your breakaway trips.
I will be painting this one once the other components are taken care of. Mine appears to be flambeu for the mast, case implement green for the body, and desert sunset for the tail-wheel. The coulters were also green but I decided to paint them black for contrast.

The poly moldboards are Poly-Tech which is based out of Georgia and they cost $85 a set. The May-Wes are $110 a set and I called them and they said that they would make me some ploy landsides and moldboard extensions if I mailed them originals as templates.
