Case 1070 infection timing

Case 1070 has been getting diesel in the crank case. Re did injection pump found it was 180 out. Still had issue pulled hood and found there was a hole in the back valve cover pulled and found many pieces. 1 hole was definitely dead. Surprised it would run so well on five ish cylinders. Hoping this was the cause of diesel in the crank as I can?t imagine this wouldn?t have made a big noise when it went loose.

Any way decided to verify timing on injection pump. As I have everything off. The Bosch pump mark lines up at about half an inch before the 35 on the crank pulley or estimating at 40 ish when specs call for 29btdc. I am sure I got the initial install right as I lined them up prior to removal. What would cause such a gap in timing? Turning the engine clockwise and 35 is the first number and mark I see. With the broken rocker shaft it leads me to believe soMe adjustments were made Any reason not to adjust it to 29 or am I missing something. Thanks

I would try it at the 29 degrees, and see how it runs and starts. On cars I have seen the vibration dampners with the timing marks turn on their rubber mounting. Not sure if the 70 series tractors were rubber mounted or not.

I don't see how the pump could be 180 out as the drive hub uses three bolts, pump turned 1/2 off the bolts would not line up. Only way is if someone put the pump drive gear in wrong. Four bolt hubs CAN be put in 180 off easily, but not three bolt hubs. A dead cylinder will easily cause fuel into oil as it gets pat the rings instead of burning..
