My W 14 has the hard shift. Did all W 14's have the hard shift? Is there some part in the transmission that can be removed to make it into a soft shift? There are times it would be nice to reverse direction without making a complete stop first. Is there any disadvantage to change it if it is even possible?

Those loaders were not a part of our contract and I have limited experience with them, I would suggest you go to the Heavy Equipment Forum, it is simple to sign up and there are separate forums for each type equipment, there will be a front end loader forum, it is full of very smart people on all brands.

I put thousands of hours on W-14 and W-20's they are not designed to shift while moving just the way the Allisons are in them come to a stop and quick shift,, I have seen them torn up by shifting while moving, the next gen loaders have 4 speeds and can be shifted like you are asking about like a 621
