Hello I recently acquired a 57 case 411 row crop, tractor runs good drives good but I need to rebuild/replace the brakes. From what I can see the diff/carrier seals must be leaking into the brakes. My question is has any one replaced those seals before? I ve heard threw the grapevine originally there is two seals but they are old style leather type and to replace those with one new "modern" seal. If anyone could shed some light on part numbers, process etc.. Thank you!

The leather seal is useless, waste of time and thankfully obsolete. We stock the modern seals in National, O rings, discs, anything else you might need, advice and time saving tips. e-mail is open, or 315-585-9826

Its been about 15 years since I did that on my 1955 Case 411. I did seals and bearings and brake disks on both sides. I had no experience at such things, so a manual was of utmost importance. You'll get it its a great way to get to know your tractor. BTW do not misplace or forget to put all the shims that are behind the bearing carriers to set lash back in at reassembly. gobble

Go to this address and enter the original Case part number. It should give you the modern SKF replacement seal. Link

Several years ago I did just that. it requires two seals per side , As the old leather seals are not no longer available. you need to pay particular attention as to what shape differential shaft is. If that particular area on the shaft is corroded or ate away. You may want to decide whether you want to build that shaft area up or just polish it. As for the seals John saeli@saeliimplement.com can help you with the parts that you need.My email is open feel free to call me if you wishCM

At the link under POWER TRAIN top of page 2. If the p/n ends in AB or in fact some of the other p/n may need to cross-ref to a later p/n(s). Post the nr someone here can probably do the cross-ref.
