Case 830 vs 930

I have been looking for a 930, but with little success. I came across a 830 diesel that looks in decent shape for a good price. From what people have told me here on this site, the 930 was one of Case's best and most reliable and durable tractors they ever made. Does the 830 have the same good reputation as the 930?

Yes a lot of parts are the same. Main difference was 930 six cylinder no Case o matic. 830 had C.O.M available I have a late model comfort king very comfortable 65hp tractor.

C.O.M. is the Case-O-Matic torque converter drive transmission. Has no clutch, but a converter drive somewhat like a backhoe, or payloader. It has a lock-up lever so the converter can be locked once it is up to speed. I have 2 of them and like them for what we use them for. As for the 830, there is quite a difference between the early ones that had the Eagle hitch and hydraulic system that could be high $ to work on. Late models with the cat 2 3pt are much better.

Was the COM an option on the 830, and how can you tell if it has this transmission?

When did the 830's start using with the regular 3 point hitch and not the eagle hitch?

Did the 930 also have the COM option also?

The 730 and 830 are very much similar tractors, through the years, models change. Front axle options were different and the could be ordered with a narrow front also. As the years went by and the Comfort King series came along, near the end of the 30 series run, 730 and 830 tractors got flat operators platforms.

As you can see in this photo of my 1964 Case 730 , u you sit quite low on the tractor, with one foot either side of the transmission. Not the easiest tractor to get on and off, with two gear shifters in the middle of the transmission. The next photo I have attached is of my 1967 Case 930 Comfot King. You can easy see the flat operating platform, and the adjustable wide front axle

Much easier tractors to get on and off, and much greater visibility. I also like the seat ahead of the rear axle and the fuel tank behind the seat. I have operated Case-O-Matic drive tractors, and didn?t like it. I like the conventional 8 speed. So I would hold out for a 930 or 1030, more HP and very nice ride

Case-o-matic was offered as an option on the 830 series, but was never offered on 930's. 830's had 3 point in 1965, maybe a little earlier. If the hood has not been repainted it will say Case-o-matic, if so equipped. Don

COM is a great system, it's just a locking torque converter ahead of a gear transmission. I would LOVE to find a diesel 830 COM I could afford!

I agree. I just climbed off an 830 diesel an hour ago. I have it on a 7ft mckee snow blower. The case o matic works great on a snow blower. I have 2 other case o matics. I Have weakness in my left leg from an injury 25 years ago and the hyd clutch control is a lifesaver for me especially on a snow blower.
