I just picked one up today and it has the hydraulic shuttle shift but the lever is real loose and has a lot of slop is there a way to tighten this up? Also where are all the fluid checkpoints? Is there a separate one for the shuttle shift housing?

Yes, the linkages can likely be tightened up, but beyond saying check and repair any worn holes and pins and replace worn knuckles and heim joints it is hard to say exactly what you need to do without being able to see it.

Do yourself a favor and get an operator's manual right away, it will be money well spent. It will have the maintenance and lube info you need to start with. Follow up by getting the service manual. Be aware you need to have the correct model and serial number for your machine as you look for manuals, and parts, since there are a lot of different series of the 580 model people refer to as 580CK. You should also have the models for the hoe and loader if equipped with one or both. This site's store has a number of 580 manuals as well as there are used ones on eBay, where you might find used OEM manuals.
