580C Power shuttle questions

I have a 580C backhoe with a power shuttle transmission that has had a drip from the torque converter housing, that turned into a gush this summer, so its repair is this winters first machinery project. As long as I have it apart to fix whatever the leak is, I am thinking about going through the whole thing to freshen it up as long as I have it this far apart, is this a realistic job for someone with average mechanical skills, does this take any special tools to work on this unit? Any advice will be apprecieated, thanks.

It is not a difficult job but you must have a genuine Case service manual, there are settings to clutch pack travel and procedures to aid in getting the drive plates meshed in the drum drive internal for lack of a better description "splines". A Case manual will take you through it one step at a time with pictures. If it as C with many hours on it and never refreshed , it's time while you have it on the floor.

Thanks for the reply! I will get a manual coming and get the transmission out of the tractor and someplace warm and dig in.
