Early C or CC Case piston question p/n 4573A

pistonring

New User
A fellow Marylander contacted me looking for a 3 7/8" standard piston for his early model C that was likely made in 1929. He has one damaged piston and wants to find one so he can keep this early three ring setup together. It is part number 4573A and has two compression rings at 3/16" wide and one oil ring at 3/16" wide also. My Model C parts book says to replace this piston with A4573A or B4573A which is the 4 ring setup that we are familiar with. I don't know if the A4573A is 3 rings or 4. Maybe someone out there knows for sure.
In any case my neighbor needs one piston to be able to keep using the 3 ring setup. I tried Saeli and Don from Austin and pawed through my parts here and didn't find any so far. Somebody out there has taken one of these apart and found at least one usable 3 ring piston and set it aside I am sure. I know that we could probably mis match a set together with both style pistons but we were hoping to keep it all the same to make a better balanced job. Please take a look in your "someday" parts piles of stuff that was too good to throw away and see if you stumble across any 3 7/8" three ring pistons. Some of us Easterners could use some help if you would please.
Thanks again,

A little bit of surface rust on the skirts, but usable. If you want it I'll send it on its way.

Hi Wilson-
Back 250 years ago there were not many schools that taught children to read. In fact there were more people that could not read than there were that could read. So if you wanted to know where you were you most likely did not have printed road signs. The road that I live on goes to the Blue Ball Tavern. I believe that George Washington slept there on his travels around the colonies. There was a blue ball out front so everyone knew where they were at. The tavern down the road had seven stars on the sign... so guess what that one was called. Taverns of the day were not booze joints, but more like a Motel 6 to provide food and shelter for the night for travelers, horses and mules. There is a White Horse pike in PA and NJ to let you know what road you were on. So to keep all of you from fussing about where I am located and to keep this rabbit trail on topic, now in 2019 when many people see reference to Blue Ball Road they know that Otto Gas Engine Works is located there and that is where you get piston rings for farm tractors and farm engines that are not available most other places including OEM. Many of you have bought piston rings from me in the last 40+ years. I also have a lot of Case parts here for tractors 60 and more years old. This concludes our history lesson for today. Thanks to those of you that did read the post it looks like my Case neighbor has located the piston to get his model C Case back together.
Thanks again,
Dave Reed
