Case/David Brown 990 selectamatic

Hello, I am going to have to source a new radiator for this 990 late model/1979. When I measured the core I come up with 17 1/2 width 18 1/4 height. Through the block/fins is 2 1/4 . If measuring the radiator from outside to outside the width is 18 1/2 X 25 3/4 height - that's measuring from the base of the bolt bracket to top of tank. I haven't been able to locate a replacement with those measurements. Most blocks are only 2 inches through - front to back of the fins. I'm sure some of you fellows have had to replace the original radiators. I would appreciate your input/ suggestions
and/or any related considerations. Thanks, Steve

Better off to have a new core put into the original tanks. Last one I had done on a 1394 was under $300

Copper is the only option as far as I am concerned. I don't know if you can even get aluminum to solder to the brass tanks, it might cause a galvanic reaction?

Mr. Martin, Thanks for the help. I located a couple reputable looking places to call tomorrow. 4 - 6 hrs. drive one way. Gotta do what ya gotta do. .

WHere are you located? Has to be a good radiator shop close by. I have one within 20 minutes. Ask around, the best ones I have dealt with were dives, one I use now is a salvage yard as its main business, but the one brother likes to solder.

Virginia, near Kentucky, Tenn, and W. Va. About 60 miles from N.C. . South western end of the state actually. I could do it if I knew where to source the core and could get it for a reasonable price.
As to the issue of using aluminum, it can be done but the chemicals and procedures are a little more expensive and involved. Having said that , like you , copper by far would be my first choice. Only one flux needed and just get everything clean before applying.
You must know the fellow that does them for you. It's simple but, cleanliness and attention to detail is crucial. I finally got the suction pipe out and once again you were spot on, the ice had broke the nut off. I'll braze it back on. Thanks for keeping me informed. Regards, Steve

RG, I sure would like to have some that magic MoJo of yours. I was fortunate in finding a re-core within 45 minutes , however @ $460. It is an exact replacement . Thanks , I think.
