Friend has a late 930 that the PTO is not working. He took it to the local Agco dealer a few years ago and they took the rear off, but said they couldn't find anything wrong. My guess is it is further in. Would anyone have any ideas? I assume the shaft is not broken, but are there splines up front or a splined cup that could be the issue? Thanks for any thoughts - Bob

If you haven't, You should pull the cover off on RH side where you adjust PTO and have a look-see inside, If nothing apparently broken in the clutch engagement mechanism, then have someone turn the PTO with a wrench with PTO lever engaged, (make sure throttle is in the shut off position). The clutch hub should turn and the drive shaft to the flywheel should turn and engine should turn over with lever engaged. If PTO input shaft is not turning then the clutch pack has problems. If the hub that the brake rides on does not turn you have a problems downstream from the clutch pack in the PTO gear train. Have you even pulled the cover to investigate inside?????--------Loren

It can be several things Bob, without me tearing it apart its hard to tell you right where it is, a Case SM is needed and remove the unit and go over it part by part,, has to be in the pto unit if he has hyd, if it turns without a load on it I would guess in the clutch pack area is my first guess,, they may not have gotten the splines on the control linkage back right,, or even not have the shift collar in the yoke, or its worn out,, if it broke when they hit something using it like a stump on a mower it may have stripped out the clutch disc disc splines,, may be totally out of adjustment again just thinking of possible causes

I have the Service Manual Tom. Would you guess there would be no reason that the tractor would ever need split because of this, or would there be the possibility? I will do some investigating in the manual. Thanks again - Bob

Bob, like I said if the hyd is working the drive from the engine to the pto unit is sound,, to find the issue you need to pull the whole pto housing off the rear,, so No there is No need to split it for this problem,,

Is it a 6 speed or an 8 speed. If a 6 speed, it could be a broken chain.

On second thought, disregard my response about a broken chain! The chain in the PTO housing drives the hydraulic pump. My error.

same shaft that drives the hyd pump drives the pto clutch,, I would say the agco dealer had no clue how to diagnose the problem,, as i assume the hyd still works

The hydraulics still work. There is a loader plumbed into the outlets.
