This is how I plan on installing this piston seal on my late model 440 Case. Perhaps a consensus from the troops as to my choice! CM

Better rethink that.its sharp edge facing oil not sharp edge facing lift pushrod. 50 some dollars better turn it correct.they are fun to install but your going wrong way
 
They're right, Chuck, installed that way, as the oil pushes against the seal it will collapse the seal and force its way between the seal and cylinder wall on its way to your diff. Turn it around so the oil pushes the seal against the cylinder wall, harder it pushes the better the seal. A few drops of dish soap in the hot water helps, and warm the piston also, but not so hot you can't handle it with bare hands.
