970 Case Hydraulic problems

Afternoon all

I purchased this 1970 Case 970 with a case loader on it. The loader runs off of the remotes. It has the power shift transmision. I bought
it with the following issues. The will barely lift. The higher the RPM the hire it goes. Will not go to the top. Will not lift a load.
Bucket is a little better but not much. The PTO does not seem to have full power. Sometimes the brakes will lock on. usually i can reduce
the rpm and they will free up. It seems to have plenty of power pulling. Good power steering, The pump looked new. I changed the Filters
and added new hytran fluid. Still had same problems. I went ahead and bought a used pump. Putting new Orings in the suction tube. Both
ends. Still no better. I am getting alot of foaming. I removed the used pump and put original pump in with the new orings. still foaming.
Not sure what to look at next or try and test. People talk about volume testing but i dont have anything to do that. Put a psi guage on
remotes getting 1275 on medium idle.
Kinda lost on what to do next.

I thot I read somewhere that the inlet piping with the screen on the end could cause foaming. Was going to pull of the PTO housing and see if anything looked broke or ?? I this a good idea or bad?

Are you hooking the hoses up correctly? Top left & top right is a circuit, and bottom left and bottom right is another circuit. For instance, trace the lines and be sure the top left goes to a loader arm cylinder, and that the top right also goes to the loader arm cylinder. The bottom 2 hoses should be going to the bucket cyl's..

Yes. I have had them wrong before, but sure they are now correct. But on the at note. If i just have one of a pair hooked up to lift, and both the buckets hooked up. It lifts very quickly and a little bit of strength.

Hittle, reading your post got me thinking, no guarantees but i would like you to check to see what happens when the hose to the top of the lift cylinders coupler is removed and put into a container and the lift operated to see if there is oil bypassing the lift cylinder packing, You have more problems but that is the way a loader with a blown cylinder packing and the return hose disconnected would act, when you lift it normally hooked up does the loader go up then settle down a couple inches when you let the lever back to neutral. Lets get started with that check and go from there.

Ok, keep us posted, btw those orings are easy to cut on the feed tune, I normally grind a bevel on each end then dress with a wire brush wheel to smooth the grind, lube the tube and oring then install.

well i cant seem to figure out how to upload a picture. But the screen to the input oil tube was 85percent blocked with differnt materials. Was a state tractor so not takent care of

I removed the PTO housing. The pickup screen was 85% plugged up. Had high hopes for that being the problem. Tested it with both pumps I have and making sure not to cut the O-Rings.

But no it was not. Put new screen on. Put new fluid in it. I would say I got a 10% increase in lift power on loader and on PTO power. The steering, clutch , transmision work just as good as always.

I was thinking the next thing was to pull the Diverter that runs PTO & remotes.

Thanks for any help you can give.

After a long fairly expensive trial and error repair on my tractor I am wondering if I have two smaller problems versa on bigger one effecting 2 things.

1. I am believe that both of the plunger seals are out on the Lifting arms

2. The PTO has some warn clutches causing it to stop under heavy load of mowing hay.

Well I finally figured the problems. Everything I have done to the tractor it needed just for maintance sake. But the problems where as follows.

PTO need all new 6 bands with clutch material - 6 new smooth bands. Have no problems running anything now.

Hydraulics were blown out on the inside only. They were not leaking fluid but it was by passing on the inside on both of them. So 2 kits later and we are good to go.
