Hi all! I am new to the forum, and totally new to tractors. I recently acquired a Case 430 triple range diesel from my father in law. I am mainly using it to brush hog some new land my wife and I purchased.
The 430 is "stuck" in hi gear, so brushogging even in 1 is a little challenging due to the speed, along with no power steering. The triple range shift lever moves freely, and I can physically remove it from the tractor. I can see a slot in the shaft of it that likely used to hold a half moon key or something to keep it attached, but I am not certain. Any ideas on where to start with this? I'd love to get this thing where I could mow in Lo gears.
Also, after using it for a couple hours, the shift lever had fallen out, and liquid was pouring out of the hole it belongs in. It was very watery. Not sure about that either?
Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks.
