New Case 430 Triple Range Owner- Few questions...

Hi all! I am new to the forum, and totally new to tractors. I recently acquired a Case 430 triple range diesel from my father in law. I am mainly using it to brush hog some new land my wife and I purchased.

The 430 is "stuck" in hi gear, so brushogging even in 1 is a little challenging due to the speed, along with no power steering. The triple range shift lever moves freely, and I can physically remove it from the tractor. I can see a slot in the shaft of it that likely used to hold a half moon key or something to keep it attached, but I am not certain. Any ideas on where to start with this? I'd love to get this thing where I could mow in Lo gears.

Also, after using it for a couple hours, the shift lever had fallen out, and liquid was pouring out of the hole it belongs in. It was very watery. Not sure about that either?

Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

I don't have an answer to the "fix",but I worked for a dairy farmer that ran a 630 triple and in 4'th gear/HI range, would do 28 MPH !! Pretty sketchy with a narrow
front.

Take the 4 3/8" cap screws out that hold the shift cover on, and find the woodruff key that may be in
bottom of tranny and slide the shift finger back onto the shift lever shaft with the key in place and install a new
roll-pin that holds the finger to the shaft. Slide a piece of mechanics wire through the center of the roll-
pin and wrap it around the finger so it can't come out again. Then realign the forks to set the cover back
on. Simple fix if you are mechanically inclined.-----------Loren

Some visuals to go with Loren's instructions. The normal full oil level is not far below the cover so the running gears will churn it out the lever hole if it is not in place.

I can't imagine doing 28 on this thing! Sketchy for sure!

Joe, Loren,

Thanks so much for the info and the detailed parts list! That is exactly what I needed. Doesn't sound too tricky, so I will get what I need and get it going. Much Appreciated!
