Question for those that know. Block is cracked between the sleeves. I know on some engines this is not good. Is this a serious problem in a vac block. Thank you Richard

Depends on where. At the top no big deal at the bottom can be a big problem from what I have heard

Sorry Old. Top of block. I ve not seen block s cracked at bottom of sleeve. Guess I better look at it closer. RB

I have seen a vac cracked at the bottom of the block. I overhauled one with cracks at the top. Didn't see any problem with the bottom where the o- rings set. After i usd it a season on a woods belly mower it started putting coolant in the oil. Pulled it down to check for a damaged o-ring and found cracks when I cleaned it up. I don't think the cracks were there when I first overhauled it as I cleaned the block and had it cooked. The sleeves were fitted dry without any force.

I've seen them both ways and the bottom is a killer the top the head gasket can seal. I have at least one if not 2 VAC blocks

I found mine on a parts tractor. It took me at least 4 hours to remove the sleeves and pistons after i had the block and head removed. I've couldn't believe how stuck that whole mess was. The pistons came out in pieces. I couple of years later I got a block, crank and head with most of the miscellaneous parts scattered in boxes on an auction foe less than $25.00 .

A crack @ the top that runs side to side is no problem. However, a crack that runs lengthways, from 1 cyl. to another is a problem. Most likely that crack runs through the upper counterbore that supports the sleeve.

Thank s fellow case guy s. Engine was stuck. Put atf in it since Dec. She came apart real easy. Cracked between sleeves and in counterbore. Haven t got the bottom cleaned up yet. RB
