We got the old A6 out today and picked some rye with it. It did a good job threshing but we experienced engine troubles on our second pass.
After cooling down we tried again and made it a little ways more. Tomorrow we will look over the engine a little and see if we can get it
running a little better.

Here are some pictures:

Pictures are being difficult tonight i guess...

I wondered what you would pull it with and that seems like a proper and fitting choice.Better luck Sunday with the Wisconsin.

Chuck, I am still tracking down a coarse thread tap to clean the threads on the plow out. They are pretty nasty in the plow and I dont want to mangle things. I will order the tap today.

Fred, we used the VAC on the A6 for the first 2 rounds but it was just a little too fast in 1s gear for the thickness of our rye. It also started to sputter from dirt in the carb so we switched to the 300 on the next try. Aaron killed the combine engine after that by accident and we called it a day. Hopefully more picking today!

Bradley, our A6 has the V4 Wisconsin. I wish it had the PTO option or I could find an A125 and put on it (I dont believe A6s had the A125 as an option though. That was the next series.)

Very nice combination. On your plow tap needed, Have you considered taking a grade 5 or better bolt, grinding 3 or 4 vertical slits in the threads possibly 1 inch long? This has worked for me when no tap was handy. Also not complaining, just never heard the term picking used with small grains. Where is this picture taken? Those Wisconsin engines when running well are great, but when not they can be a real pain, especially hand cranking.

This operation is located in Central Iowa. We are feeling you on your sentiments about that dang V4! As for the picking terminology it was just the first thing that came to mind.

Did you do any work on the valves? I remember dad telling me you need to clean the carbon off the valves and lap them into the seats about every year. Of course you need to reset the tappet clearance after doing this.
