51 VAC throttle problem

Couple of weeks ago my cable on the throttle broke.
It starts behind the dash and goes down behind the engine and reconnects to the steel lever which then operates the governor linkage.
I have been using the foot throttle since then, but would like to fix the hand throttle.
Any one ever worked on one of these?
Thanks, Richard in NW SC

I wonder if your is like the one on my 1949 VAC or one of the parts VAC that I have which are a 1946

Below is a link to the parts lookup page. I didn't check to see if it's still available.

If NOT, I'd repair it.

Looks like the steel cable "core" may be crimped into a rod at the throttle lever end?

Any lawnmower shop would have the steel cable core if you are able to reattach it to the rod, mite take drilling it out in the lathe, inserting a new cable, them crimping it down on the cable.

Shouldn't be impossible to do!

I have repaired them using 1/8" brake tubing and small steel cable. Made a connector from 1/4" rod about 3/4" long with 2 setscrews to attach cable to rod from hand throttle. Then slide the tubing up in the holder where the original housing was. Don't remember how long it was but I put a long radius in it to get the cable lined up with the lever under the gas tank. Hope you get the idea of what I am describing. It works very well and has been in use for over 15 years. Lee

I will be putting on some rake teeth here in a bit and I'll try to remember to look at he throttle linage on the 49 I use to rake hay with

Looks like the cable vs. a rod came into use at serial # 5570000.

The ones I have all use a rod. Not sure if a rod could be made to work on your but I would think it would hold up better and I most likely have a couple on hand that you could get from me

Thanks for all the replies.
I did not have time to look at it today.
This weekend, I will dig deeper.
