I have a case model 1130. i ran over a property marker and the shear pin on the pto shaft didn't break. Something inside broke. It makes alot of noise and I can grab the pto shaft with my hand and stop it.Are these tractors known to break pto shafts ? before I tear it apart does anyone know what the most common causes are ?

Sure they made a 1130. Maybe I'm at the wrong site for information

That's a much more modern tractor than most talk about here. I'm sure most here assumed you were mistaking either a 1030 or 1170. I can't even recommend someone to ask about that compact tractor. Any idea who made it? Not made by case for sure.

I don't think any American brand has made their own compact tractor in several decades. It was purchased from someone else and badged as a case and sold by case, but is likely a yanmar or Mitsubishi or some other. Better pics showing the hood, rear and dash would help.

Yes its a mitsubishi, the engine is made by some
other company sub something, cost about $13,000
new 2 years or so ago

Not a "J I Case" proper as in 1030 or 1170 as many of us may have presumed/expected. It is Case-IH named (but a Mitsubishi made) 1991 & maybe leftovers available in 1992. I had the similar 255 model mainly differing in sheet metal appearance (and saw these 1120,1130,1140 instead in the dealership when I went for parts). Tractor data has info - Tractor House has more detailed pictures. It is/was a very good, if perhaps overpriced compact. No known PTO problems or weakness but some found they didn't like being overworked as in doing 40HP worth of mowing with a 25HP tractor. No worse than a VAC on bushhog as some others have mentioned. They break too. You may have just been on it when it failed (now) due to cumulative mis-use from 20-25 years ago. Again, I was quite impressed with my 255, other than Sub-Zero winter starting. I do not think CIH liked seeing Ford,JD, Kubota selling all the compacts. This particular line was SOLD off supposedly (or just discontinued and recontracted) to become newer Cub Cadet/MTD decaled models with the same looking hood, etc.
