crappy condensers

Too muddy to plow so I thought I would throw out a topic. There has been much talk on this site on poor quality ignition points condensors. In the past week my one borther had a bad one out of the box on his 8n ford and another had the same failure on one replaced last year on a ford car 223 six. So to me it begs the question: Is there one reliable brand for this part, or should we be hording New Old Stock?

It is RARE for an older OEM condenser to fail, over MANY years and thousands of hours, yet guys throw 'em out by the horde and replace 'em with the questionable new ones.

Does that make ANY sense?

A habit from when they came as part of the tune up set, but we need to change habits i think, or find better parts. I wonder if any are still made in the usa?

So what makes a good one versus bad? (Duh, good ones work....) What part of the construction has changed?

The one that was bad out of the package was shorted to ground. Guessing that short was internal as it appeared ok externally.
