Case SC Hydraulics

So my 53 SC does this thing where it won't
lift anything with the rear hydraulics once
it's warmed up. I had it connected to a hay
rake today and tried to lift it. If you go
real slow and gentle it will lift very
slowly, but if you push the lever all the
way it just clicks/pops out like it was
stopped or hit max pressure. This tractor
also has an eagle hitch which I never have
problems with. I'll try to get a picture
up. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you have a coupler problem. When they get worn they don't push the pins or balls far enough and the oil pressure closes the balls in the coupler. Try changing the ends on the hoses and look inside the tractor couplers for wear. Are they original case or been changed to pioneer? Pioneer are more prone to this, but the case will too.

I just changed them to Pioneer fittings last year. They have almost no use on them. I'm not aware of a filter on this transmission, is there one? And how do I check the spools? I tried to take that cover off in the picture with the four screws and I was met with a bunch of oil, so I didn't really see what's inside. I'm running 80 90 weight oil.

Wrong oil in the Hyd. System. Requires Hytran, or something similar. I suspect the filter is damaged because of the gear oil. A quality Hydraulic-Transmission fluid. Also, the SC is a high volume low pressure system, could be the diameter of the cylinder is too small. We stock Operator Manuals that would help you understand your SC.

If they are pioneer try different ends on the hoses, I'll bet one or both are old and worn. Try a different cylinder if you don't want to change the ends. But get that oil changed to some type of hydraulic oil too. The filter should be on the lower right side behind a tree bolt cover, at least on the later ones. It is cleanable if it's good yet. If it's deteriorated they are available, I believe John Saeli has them.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll try to find that filter and maybe change the oil. I was wondering about the cylinder too. I'll look in to it.

E-mail link is open. We stock the manuals, filters, gaskets, engine kits, ect. What size diameter cylinder are you using?

Not sure. We just got the rake and it's not actually mine. I'd have to run over to his house and look. It is small though. Probably a 1" ram.

That top hose in the right should circle down and hook to a cup on the lower right side, that is the filter.

You deffinately need to get the correct oil, and that may cure your problem since heavy oil would make it worse. But I when you say it will lift slow, but slam to a stop if you go fast, that tells me some valve is closing and not an oil restriction or low pressure as those would have a softer stop. I have had the hose ends cause this problem quite a few times and this is textbook for that issue. If you go slow the oil does not push the spring enough to close it, fast it will. With your new stiff springs in the tractor couplers and an old weak one in a hose end, the tractor couplers could easy over come the other. Change the hose ends, Or at least try it on a different cylinder and hoses before you get too carried away with repairs.

Jon one thing is for sure we both need to add an SC to our farms!!! I think a good manual and trouble shooting will fix him. Those sc and dc around me were a trouble free tractor.
