1951 VAC, help with rear axle

1st visit and need help. Have 51' vac & wanting to r&r rear axle seals. Book reads to back off castle nut which pushes out seal. Have done this several times but the shaft has not moved the seal and just gets tight against other axle. Am I missing a snap ring? Does the seal need to be chiseled out?

To help see what you are asking about snap ring. Go to case, parts type in VAC 13 and it will give you a picture of parts . Hope this helps you. Jerry from Ohio

Drill a couple of small holes 180 degrees apart on the seal and thread in a couple of large screws. Use a pry bar on the screws to remove the seal.

The snap ring is inboard of the outer bearing. Has nothing to do with the seal, use the screws as mentioned.

Thanks to all for the help. Joe my manual shows the same image. This is the 1st seal that did not budge with alot of psi from castle nut.
