2nd 6 Bottom Plow

Just thought I would post a couple of pics of how the second 6 bottom ow turned out. It was in pretty good shape when I got it, but it didn't have any coulters, and 3 moldboards were pretty worn. All the shears and landsides were like new. I had to dig into my stash and get the coulters put on, a little work on the lift, and she is definately ready to plow. This is the green axle 6 bottom. This is probably a pretty rare plow I am guessing. Bob

Thanks for the pictures!! How does that hook to the tractor with the "eye hook"? Is there a clevice that attatches to the drawbar? At first glance it resembles an ALLIS snap coupler without the lift arms, Have fun with them !!

WOW! That's a L-O-N-G plow. Dad got a real nice 4-14 Case pull plow to pull with our 450 Farmall that we could mount the Mid-West plow harrow on, mounting it to the fully mounted IH 4F-43 4-14 would have required way too much frt weight. And WAY less plugging with corn stalks than either the Fast Hitch plow or the IH #8 plows I was used to. Used the 4-14 for two years, then Dad traded the 450 for a "BIG tractor", 4010-d with 4020 kit, traded 4-14 for a Case 5-14, widened the plow harrow a bit, and found out the 4010 wasn't so big, plowed about 20 acres and dropped the back bottom off. But the 4010 pulled it as a 4 bottom about 1/2 mph faster than the 450.

My Brother-in-law's Dad talked Dad into trying Case plows. Glad he did, they're a good plow. The newer IH plows, #60 & #70 both have more clearance than the old #8's, but think I'd go with a Case plow for plow days.

That 6 bottom is an Impressive piece of equipment.

Bob, I have that same model plow in a 5X16 setup. It has the pin break hitch also, the manual calls for a wooden pin to be put in the hole to shear if you hit something. Most I've seen had a bolt put in there. Great plows. BT

It sure would be nice to have that for behind my 1030. I know where there are 2-5 bottom plows similar, one trip beam and one with trip hitch. But they want a lot of money, been sitting on them for at least 20 years tho. Price hasn't changed in that time either. Lol.

It's newer than this one, but similar. They look almost alike sitting side by side. They have been asking 1200 each for at least the 20 years I've known about them.

Bob and Jon,, I think I may have slipped a brain cell,, I had it in my mind the trip beams did not come out til mid to later 60's but then it hit me I have a model "SRT" I know was sold new with a EH 830 dsl com so I better look Bob it looks to me like I see rail road iron type beams that would be a model A I will do some digging,, if they had that I do not know why my Dad did not sell the one I have with them,, but again that would Explain the "Eye" type hitch

I cant find any parts books showing the model A ever had spring trip beams,, the one above has the wood pin trip in the hitch I do show them as far back in 1958 for other model plows

This plow is not a trip beam plow. Like you said, they did not make the A Series plow in a trip beam. They did make the C Series plow in that same era in a trip beam plow. This pkow is the early A Series Green Axle Plow. The beams are different, but the wear parts are the same. With the railroad style beams you can not attach the factory coverboards.

Some people around here bought the plows with the round eye style hitch due to a lot of flat and sandy/sandy loam ground with no rocks. They could save a few dollars that way.

If the pic will attach, here is the final project.

Nice plow Bob , does it have 14? or 16? bottoms. Always was surprised that the A series was the only series that you could get 14? bottoms on a 6 btm.
