1970s Case 570 farm tractor block heater

Good evening,

I have a Case 570 farm tractor from the early '70s that has a 188.4 ci diesel engine. I don't know the serial number yet since I haven't figured out where to find the serial number yet and get the exact year.

Anyway, it is getting hard to start in the cold winters of Northern Michigan and I wonder if it will accept a block heater and don't know whether it will screw into the block. I haven't located a spot for it yet but
just got the front covers off two days ago and haven't had a chance to REALLY look hard. If there is no place to install a block heater does anyone have an opinion about how well the magnetic ones work that
you stick to the bottom of the oil pan and how many watts would I likely need?

Thanks,

Greg

This is what the Zerostart catalog shows... 188 C.I.D. diesel #3500026 immersion heater 3/8" NPT, installs in LH side of block.

"Circulation Heater ("tank heater")or #3200005 Lower
Radiator Hose Heater are acceptable alternatives."

Right behind the fuel filter bracket on the block there is a plug to install that style heater. You may have to heat the plug red hot to let it relax in the hole. Best done with the filter bracket off the engine. IIRC it is an odd size square just under 5/16.

I have a 1961 Case 430 with the 188 Diesel engine and it located on the left side of block, as in this picture. It?s the round piece with the knurled knob.
