301 manifold

Anyone know for sure if the manifold from my 400 will fit on the 301 engine I bought yesterday? Seems to be some confusion on the issue. The manifold on the engine won't work on the tractor because the hood will hit it, so I'll need to change it.

Jon,

My 400 Super diesel came with an 800 motor and heads. They used the 800 manifold and ran the exhaust through the hood. I have always wanted to route it the right way with a 400 manifold but the ports on 800 heads are significantly bigger. It might work if you switch heads w/the 400 engine. Let us know if you find a solution. Don

I sold the heads for the 400, but they won't fit anyway because the bolt pattern is slightly different. Tom and I talked about the hole through the hood solution and that is a possibility. The manifold that came ecould work too if I trim 3" out of the side of the hood. Or as some have suggested I may bore out the original manifold. I'll do some research and find out what boring the manifold will cost and decide then. The main problem with boring the manifold is that there will only be a little over 1/4" left of the manifold after the boring. I'm not sure if that will hold up.
