Ok I decided I was tired of all the slop in the shifter of my 400. The pins the ball of the shifter pivot on was shot and the holes were wallered out. I drilled the collar an welded up the ball to recut the grooves. This wasn't just a shade tree fix. It was done with drill press an milling machine. All went good. Shifter is back to nice and tight. I reinstalled it in the tractor and now it will not shift all the way into 2nd or 6th gear. It will try to go into those gears but as soon as you let go of the shifter it pops out. All other gears work perfect. Don't have to hunt for them anymore. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks for any advice!

bent fork would be my first guess if all other gears work fine, I assume it never popped out before the fix, you took all the extra movement out that was letting it lock into the detente before,, cnt
