Shop tips for finding source of leak

Any tips or tricks for finding the source of an oil leak when the bottom side is all soaked?

I don't have access to a steam cleaner to degrease it in the cold weather.

Any experience with the UV dye detectors? The tractor is due for fluid changes fairly soon so I don't have a problem with adding a dye to the engine or hydraulic system.

Thanks

The equipment for UV detection would run you about what a cheap pressure washer would; the dye's not cheap, you need a very powerful black light and special eyewear so that the dye shows up and your eyeballs don't sunburn. And sooner or later you're going to have to clean it anyway.

I've used this stuff and it works like a charm, but I think you'll still need to have the surface cleaned before using this or any similar products:

A much cheaper option is (after cleaning) spray the area of the suspected leak with an aerosol baby powder like Gold Bond or any number of other products geared toward treating feet, jock itch, etc. Works almost as well as the fancy, and expensive, industrial stuff!
