vac trasmission oil level

All literature on VAC says to fill transmission to the mark. It doesn't say if this measurement is made with the dipstick plug resting on the hole (like most mower engines with a dipstick) or if you measure after it has been screwed in completely. That is the difference of 3/4" or so and that could be a lot of tranny fluid.
Thanks

Thanks. I figured as old as it is that would be the way to do it. But I have a kohler motor almost as old and that one you don't screw it in to measure.
