2290 shifting

I have a 1979 Case 2290 purchased 6 years ago. Everything works OK, but there is a question I have about the gear shift lever. It works but seems to be very sticky. After storing in barn for winter I'm going to try to find if there are adjustments and/or lubrication (cables?) points that will help make shifting easier. Does anyone have experience with this? Maybe it's normal to be hard shifting?

The Power Shift lever is very smooth and easy to operate.

Thanks, Ray S.

There are two shafts sticking out the bottom RH side of the trans. These two do the shifting for the 4 speed. If you do not know where these are, have a buddy shift the 4 speed while you watch, you will see the moving cable and levers. You can unhook the cable from the lever to determine if the cable or shafts are tight. Normally it is the shaft, they can get rusty tight where they pass through the trans housing. A healthy dose of a penetrating lube and continued shifting normally will free them up. Give that a try, Rod.

Thanks for the tip Rod. I hadn't thought about the shafts getting rusty. I'll give it a try when later when done working - soon I hope. Ray
