Why did Case mount the lights where they did on the 1070

I got to looking at where the lights are on my 1070 and it seems there was no thought of a loader being installed as the lights are right behind the loader frame ( of course everyone except me has known this for years). I am going to install 4 LED light units above the windshield wiper on the black panel and 4 on the back as well, I think that will light up the night if I ever have to move snow at night.Here is a picture of the lights, what do you all think?

In 1969 when they came out we sold almost Zero loaders for that size of tractor and where they did they were sold with out cabs much of the time,, starting in 1973 or so is when I seen the step around here to a bigger tractor with loaders, they were far better than the 30 series with the nose lights only, they also came out with optional cab flood lights pretty early for them too, we would bolt a piece of strap tot he light mount and move them out beside the loader when we started selling more of them with loaders

Around here loader tractors were smaller or mounted on open station 70 series tractors. Farmers still needed
to get the loader tractors into sheds etc with low clearance. When we started putting loaders on bigger cab
tractors for snow removal, Case had lighting options available for the top of the cabs.

The location CASE chose on cabs was a good one except for loaders. If they are mounted up overhead you will light up air cleaner, muffler and top of hood which some
people find annoying as Jon mentioned. Also keep them far enough forward so the light does not strike the windshield glass. Those LED's are excellent lights placed
properly. Rod.
 
when I added a loader to my 1070 I cut the lights off their mounting place and rewelded then to the outside of the cab post and a bit higher plus I made a light bar and mounted 2 wide beam lights on it the bolted it to the top of the cab
 
Just my opinion, but the loaders on big tractors was of the result of Vermeer baler. WE hauled hay with a 65 MF on the 3 point platform(small round AC bales. Why not use a cab tractor to haul big bales and a lot were stored in the barns two or three high.
 
I agree with you on the round balers brought farm loader use to a new high on bigger units,, we sold the first 850 NH we could get in 1975, Vermeer was ahead of them by 3 years but was still years after the 1969 intro of the 70 series,, here we returned to more forage crops than farming when the price of wheat fell off in the early to mid 70's so that led to more tractors with loaders and grapples to handle the round bales when round baler sales took off, here we sold one new 850 in 75 but sold at least 6 the next year as their use caught on,, we could have sold more the first year but we were hesitant to put out to many first year new products,, and with NH then you ordered stock the year before they were delivered so there were no extra 850's to be had from other dealers,,
 
Thanks for all the info on this. Now I am thinking maybe on the roof is not the best. I will have to do some testing as I never even considered the muffler and air cleaner. Building extensions on the existing brackets is pretty simple and alot less wiring as well.
 
You might have to get inventive with your
light placement. The 86 series IH is the
same way. I moved the lower cab lights on
my 1086 with a Westendorf loader to the
front of the steps and I put a LED light
bar ahead of the cab just under the front
roof overhang. The factory lights were
reflecting back in my eyes off the loader
frame and doing nothing for forward
lighting.
