Case A6 out picking. IT LIVES.

We finished harvest and finally got some down time to take the A6 out and pick some beans we left for it. These were some pretty soggy nasty beans but it picked and threshed them fairly well.
It will now be winterized for the season but my next big fix on the combine will be replacing the sickle guards and sections as they are very dull.

Will CIH modern sickles and guards fit the combine if I remove all the old ones or does anyone have a box of the old replacement sections I could purchase? The entire bar will need to be replaced.

As a refresher we bought this combine earlier this year from the barn that it had been sitting in since it was parked in (I believe) the 60s. It had been put up on blocks so the tires were in great condition. They are the factory originals.

Here are some pictures for everyone:

Great post Conner, I have a huge soft spot for the "A6", the YouTube was really good, and enjoyed the bio and pictures. Thank you.

Does the A-6 use the same guards as the pull type Case windrower? Are they solid brass guards? Have some new brass guards with the Eagle logo. Not enough to do a combine though.

Conner,

Great video and pics...thanks for sharing. I have never seen an A6 before but it appears to work pretty decently in those beans. Let's see more bean picking again next year after your updates!

Thanks for the replies. The sickle sections currently on the combine are shorter than the modern sections but still use the same hole spacing.

Here are a couple more videos:

You fellas are a devoted bunch, most of us would have skipped the trial run in those conditions. Great vid and pics, thanks for showing, Rod.

Very nice! We don't see that type of equipment up here much. A couple of the pictures there could have been right out of the 50's.

We had an A6 with a water cooled Hercules engine. It was new in 1948, it had a spike-tooth cylinder and was a great combine. Dad used it for many years until he retired in the 1970's. I still have a good set of both top & bottom canvass for an A6 & hope to find one some day that is in as good condition as the one you have! (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
