Case 400 PTO brake

Hi. I recently bought a 1955 Case 400. Its a good tractor and runs pretty good. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the tractor is suppose to have a brake for the PTO. I cannot get the PTO to stop running but my owners Manual says it is supposed to have a cone brake. I also talked to someone else who has a Case 400 and he says that only the later models had the PTO brake. If anyone knows or has any info or advice about wether it has a brake or not or if something else could be broke. Please let me know. Thanks

If your pto is hooked to a piece of equipment disengaging the pto, it will stop. But with no load it will continue to turn, even when disengaged. So be aware that shutting down the tractor is necessary to hook up to your mower, baler, auger, whatever, to the tractor. Just the nature of the manufacturing. Sometimes referred to as pto drift. gobble

If the lever has a lock to hold it down
in the off position, you have a brake.
If not, then no brake. If you have a
brake and it still turns then likey the
discs have been warped from slipping
and a new PTO clutch is in order. There
are some adjustments that may help, bit
I've never had much luck getting by
without a rebuild. Luckily that is easy
and not too spendy if needed.

My 1954 Case SC with live PTO always rotated with the lever disengage, seems there was a slight drag on the clutch or something. Just had to
shut the tractor off to hook up PTO. Apparently that?s just the way it was.
