1070 PS Control Valve again

So I am about ready to get into cleaning the valve per 1370Rod's excellent documentation. What else should I do to the valvle at that doing? I know there are rebuild instructions in the manual but should I be rebuilding it or just cleaning per the instructions and replacing the easy to replace O Rings?

I did one a couple years ago. Rod's documentation here in the archives is great, have a Case service manual, get a complete Case gasket/O-ring kit. Take your time, clean thoroughly, get ALL of the old gasket off, make sure all of the spools slide freely. Make sure every part goes in the right place, the right way. Double check. If in doubt ask. Make sure your gaskets are correct - all of the port openings that should be open are open. I have read on here of guys getting the wrong gaskets due to S/N breaks etc. and things not working right.

Good luck

Remove and clean and reassemble one spool at a time there are different tension springs used on the retard spools.

Thanks guys,

I have been going through it today and when I pulled the LUB port valve out noticed there were no shims on the spring. Is this normal? And the spool was very sticky when I moved it in and out of the port. I have it that it moves freely now but am concerned about the lack of a shim.

If it has the correct pressure it needs no shim and if testing after reassembly shows low pressure then you can add one, just put a gage in the lub port and check it, Things like shims are UAR ( use as required).

So I got everything back together yesterday and running again. The good news is I have no leaks anywhere so that is good. Still seems I have issues with getting it into gear though. I adjusted the turnbuckle to get the surge when the inching pedal is pushed to the floor but it still grinds going into to gear. One thing I noticed and this was occurring before I took it apart as well is when I push the inching pedal to the floor the tractor tries to backup momentarily. I tried putting it in reverse prior to selecting a range and it worked a few times then it was grinding again. I have tried pushing the inching pedal and waiting about 10 seconds or so before putting it in gear and no change. Oddly every once in a while it will go into gear without grinding. I have done a modification that put a button on the dash that when pressed will allow the tractor to start in gear (I know I know) but you have to have the button pushed and hold it to make this happen. That way I can start it and have the required range selected prior to going to work. This is just to get through the winter and I will have to deal with the issue when it warms up again and I don't need the tractor.
