I just bought a Case 580 I think a 1969 diesel backhoe. Not running the guy I got it from put a new injector pump on it and he said he got it out of time and quit messing with it. I didn?t give much for it so if I can?t make it run I can sell it for salvage. How do I get everything back in time to run right. It turn over fine. Not a bad looking backhoe. I would like to get it to run. Thanks

Easiest way to verify timing, remove the valve cover. Turn the engine and watch the rear #4 rocker arms, when the exhaust is almost closed, and intake just starting to open this will verify piston one is at TDC compression stroke since pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC together. Now look at the flywheel and find the #6 or #8 BTDC mark. Most Case valve covers have the timing and valve settings on the cover decal. Now remove the injection pump two screw timing cover, if the timing marks under the cover are NOT aligned pump is probably 180 degrees off. Remove it, turn the slotted rotor inside to get the pump marks in the window. Replace the pump being careful NOT to roll over the rear shaft seal.
