1030 out fixing the kingdom ditches

Don't know where those peasants have gone to, but they were nowhere to be found when it came to digging out the ditches in the kingdom. So today I headed out to do some work on them myself. Just drug the last bottom of the plow through to clean them up and get rid of the ruts that we're blocking them. It really got the water flowing. There was one place that was blocking everything. Once that was open it was like a dam burst. Of course the inevitable happened, I was trying to get the main field ditch clear to the main ditch and found some ruts where someone had gotten stuck before. But this should help a lot to drain this field. Now if it could just stop raining and snowing! Snowing right now and supposed to rain tonight.

Jon, you are really wet there. I was so glad we didn't get all that up here.

Jon-Jon-Jon!!! I know it's tempting to drain a field in a hurry that way, but problem is, the reason why water gathers there is because that is the lowest point, we all know that, but ditching like that, encourages erosion, soil washes away, and that low point gets lower. Quick fix, long term damage.

Won't be any erosion here, there is not enough drop to get any. You can stand in the lowest ditch here and see virtually every inch of soil on 58 acres. But when I get this dry I'll put in grass water ways.

Looks like that nice field would be worth the cost of having the tile plough come through even every 30 ? with some Big O drainage tile . I my area tile drainage usually cost $1,000. Per acre , but makes a world of difference to crop yield. In our county, you can get a tile drainage loan through the county, they spread the cost over ten years, and add it to your tax bill.

If you put tile in here it would be burried under the water table as I farm up to the water in most places.
