1969 Case 850 Dozer

I have a chance to buy a older Case 850 Dozer to set in my shed and allow me to walk past it from time to time.
Does anyone have any idea what a machine like this might be worth. The sprockets and rollers are in very good shape, the chain is about 50%. He was in the tiling business and only used it to back fill. Always ran in black dirt, no sand.
The man that has it seems to think it is more valuable then I do. The JD dealer in Fort Dodge, Iowa has a 1985 for just $500 more, then he is asking. 16 years newer.
Might anyone, have any thoughts about this.

It?s not that I need one, going to be a shed queen the rest of its life, if I buy it. The man that owned it did tiling for me for many years. This was before the plowing in became the new way. Vermeer trencher, slow chain machine. I?ve have used it on several occasions, I thought it would be nice to own, always shaded.
Years ago I bought the low boy that he had for this dozer and also he used it for the tiling trencher.
Just looking for a reasonable value for a 49 year old machine. I got a sheds full of Case 300?s that are 56 and 57 model years. It would be nice to own a crawler.

Sounds like you would rather have the older one, why not, just because another one is newer means nothing. A couple years ago I bought a 1970 CASE 450, yes a old machine, but in good condition. Been a great little machine. I have seen some 20 years newer I would not trade it for. Just my 2 cents worth, Rod.

for 500 bucks the dealer would be a better buy if the dealer has a good reputation. they wont sell a dozer without inspecting it to make sure it works like it should. you probably could get a 6 month warranty with them. no warranty with an individual. you might be able to get the 500 off the asking price or even more.

Totally understand, I am a old model, hope my lady friend does not want to trade me in for a newer model.
Cold and rainy here in north central Iowa, started a fire in the stove, going to just be one of those days.

Not worried about warranty, buying for nostalgia, going to just set in the shed, no use for it, other then I have one and you don?t syndrome.
Trying to find someone who might know the value of such an old machine. I don?t want to give him a big premium just to own it. I don?t want to steal it either, I have dinner with them every week or so, long time friends, we go back 50 years or more.
Or as I sometimes say it I?ll go good on my sales after I am gone.

Sorry I still cant load pics due to some new update this site has done I have a pricing guide from when I sold equipment for 2000,, prices have actually came up somewhat to when this was published here but it will give you a ball park range

high 5514
low 3639

this is for a 1969 850,, auction prices dealers will add another 25-35% easy to these prices,, undercarriage is the big factor here even over component repairs,, if the one you are looking at has good undercarriage and is better than the dealers offering that will easily over come the 500 savings,, as for being 5 years newer again all about condition, here a 850 with dozer would be in the 5000-12,000 range at auction again all depending on condition and who was bidding on it,, hope that helps
cnt

Chatted with a friend who was a salesman for Case Industrial and he thought since the undercarriage is very good. I know the tractor, that a figure of 8 might be in the ball park.
So what you are saying fits close to what he is asking.
Thank you. I will go and negotiate, see what I can do.
