cav injector pump

I have a 580 case and the injector pump is leaking at the base of the control housing (on top).
Correct me if I am wrong but Looking at the parts breakdown it doesn't seem there should be any fuel up there.
If fuel needs to be present can I just pull the cover off and replace the gasket?

Yes, there is fuel in the top of CAV DPA pumps. While it can be re-sealed on engine, I stopped doing that years ago. Best to have the complete pump re-sealed for best results. My experience has been other leaks show up soon after the patch job attempt, and then I'd hear, "but you just worked on it, and it's leaking again". Have a Perkins pump ready for the test bench that came in for more leaks, after the patch job didn't last..

A large percentage of the time fixing a leaking cav cover is like trying to solider a 70 year old radiator. You may fix the leak but an other one will pop up soon, or before your done. Remember, all the seals in that pump are the same age. Not if, but When the drive seal starts to fail you get diesel in your engine oil. This is to expensive of an engine to gamble on. Time to reseal Al
