My case 320 industrial loader backhoe has a 12 volt delco remy generator which someone put on it prior to my owning it. I would like to install a 12 volt internally regulated delco remy alternator in place of the generator. Pulley on end of the generator has a double pulley. a small pulley to run the power steering pump the other larger pulley is for the belt which drivers the generator.
Does anyone know if I will be able to install the double pulley on a delco remy alternator

Typically, Delco generator pullies will swap right on to a Delco 10SI or 12SI alternator.

Unlike the generator, the alternator will NOT have a shaft keyway, but will function fine without it. Use an impact wrench to loosen/tighten the nuts, take it a little easy on the tighten side so as not to strip the nut.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. Including pictures of the generator on the tractor now and the double pulley set up which is installed on the current generator which drives the generator and the power steering pump

The G1223 pulley fits on the end of the generator currently on the tractor. Have installed delo remy alternators on other tractors we have. They had one pulley and was able to get larger V size pulleys for the alternators to fit the larger belts.

One thought I had. I replaced my gen on my 310B backhoe a while back, with in internal regulated one and I found I had to rev the engine up against the governor to get that 1500 rpm or so it takes to energize the field and I went back to the 3 wire unit, which energizes off the battery. I never liked having to hold a colder engine at max unloaded throttle for 30 seconds or more to kick the alt in. I energized it off the hour meter wire, only hot when the engine is running, works well. Others I pick up a normally open, low oil pressure switch from NAPA to complete the connection. Diode kits also work well. The 3 wire is not a big deal
