801-b Seat...what a mess

I'm beginning work on my 801-b starting with the Eagle Hitch/Drawbar and seat. The seat and mount is a mess and I'm hoping for ideas and feedback. There is an after-market 'Pilot' seat welded onto the seat post now.

NOTE: I do have an original seat and mount on my spare 801-b but I might save that for the real restoration work to come a year or two from now.

1. Replacing the original rubber seat torsion spring with a new one, except many people seem to think they are short-lived and a waste of money.

3. Keeping the original seat post, remove he old rubber seat torsion spring and weld the end-caps in place so it's rigid (since the after-market seat has suspension built-in)...this will keep it 'mostly' looking original.

4. Build something from scratch and put these parts on the shelf for restoration later on.

Any ideas/feedback or pictures would be helpful. I'm not too concerned about keeping "everything" original since I do plan to acutally use this tractor and I have the spare tractor with a factory original seat and post.

Throw the rubber torsion junk in the scrap pile and mount the shock with the spring on it from a WD
Allis under the Case seat. I have done that to several Case tractors and it works quite well.

I have plans to mount a coil over shock behind the rubber spring on my 831C this winter. My rubber spring is not broken, but needs some help when I set in the seat. I found some short coil overs on the internet for mini bikes, that will work nicely and look like a factory setup when completed.I modified my Case square pan seat with armrests and a high back, so it needs some extra support

Drill a 1/4" hole thru the plates behind the knob you use to adjust the tension and insert a bolt. Makes the seat have no suspension but
doesn't change the appearance. Have done it on a couple of mine.
