Case DC Pistons

I currently pull a Case DC with 4" pistons in 4500 and 5500 pound classes. I'm placing and winning occasionally but would like more power for next year. I wanted to know if someone might have some good used 4.25 or 4 3/8" pistons they might want to part with. If not does the John Deere 3020 gas pistons work well and will it require much work. Do they get to the top of the block with these pistons? I also would like to know if my 5505 head will perform good enough with this setup. Finally, do I need to concern myself with the rear main bearing support as others have mentioned with this setup and just what does that involve? Thanks!

After reading your post, of which I can contribute zero, I could not help but be reminded of DC Tom Gravis. A frequent poster on this site until his passing 3 4 or 5 years ago. He pulled DC's and was a knowledgeable contributor here. Seemed to know all the ins and outs of the DC. Check the archives there may still be some of that knowledge hiding there. gobble

I searched the archives for DC TOM. came up with a plethora of posts. BTW I was wrong on his name, Tom Graverson gobble

Thanks for the info. Tom certainly posted his fair share of informative replies on many various topics. I'm betting he is greatly missed by certain people. I do hope to find some other ideas from anyone who actually used either the 4.25 or slightly bigger pistons. Thanks again!

I think dboll (?) has used that size range pistons effectively on a CC or DC. Also, o understand the 5576 head has better breathing than the 5505. The difference in chamber size is less of an issue, or even a plus when the displacement is increased like this. I also would say the strongest running DC's I have seen with basically stock setups were running the 5576.

It looks like Doug has used some 4 3/8" pistons from a bigger case tractor. He will likely be able to help. The john deere pistons from a 3020 are way more affordable. Has anyone tried them in the past and how much hp did it produce?

I will try to contact Doug in the near future also. Thanks!

Page Mel from this forum. He ran a hot DC for many years and knows how to get every ounce of power out of a DC engine. Don
