I am trying to find the correct PDFs that act as shop manuals for the brakes and thermostart (which might be in the shop manual for the fuel system?) on an 885 David Brown. I have the Operators Manual and what the Brit's call a Tractor Manual but is really just an expanded operators manual.

Again, a big thank you for finding and posting the links.

I need to be pruning peaches today... but it's raining and 35 degrees. So, to not loose the day, I started tracing the wire from the thermostart back to the ignition switch but gave up. I need to set the loader off and yank the hood first so I can see why behind the dash there is a bunch of loose wires going no where... but it's raining and 35 degrees.

Visually it appears the brakes should be working. Will try adjusting them first

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

I found it funny that in the link to the manual provided the "Fault Finding" (trouble shooting) section was so small. Come on! It's a LUCAS electrical system and anyone who's messed with Lucas system know that "They invented Darkness"!!!

Thermostart is covered in the "Electrical Equipment" manual. Open the following link and go to page H10 and H18.

The parts manual lists two different ignition switches for the 885. One of them (K929365) has the word "thermostart" in the description. Go to the following link and find and open the parts manual for the "885 885N ser. no 11,000,000 & Up". The figure that you are looking for is "M2".

Thanks very much for the effort. Looked at the brake section and then printed it. I guess from the looks of it the reduction units must be removed to access the brakes... maybe they just need an adjustment.

Still trying to find the thermostart info. Two biggest things I'd like to know is: 1) If I have the right ignition switch assuming there is a with and without thermostart switch for the diesel 885 and: 2) If verifying that there is 12 volts at the unit itself with the switch in the correct position tells me the electrical side of things is correct.

Found the pdf on the brakes. Go to the following link. The manual on the brakes is titled "Clutch Power Take Off Reduction Units Brakes" and it is the fourth manual from the bottom of the page.

Outside of the David Brown Tractor Clubs website that has some bulletins and copies, I'm not aware of any free PDFs of proper shop manuals. The least expensive source I've found is Ebay. You can get a CD with the shop manuals you want for a fraction of what a print copy goes for. I have never bought one as I don't like that format at all. I watched until I found a print shop manual at a price I could accept and bought that.
