The down pressure thread got me to thinking about what may have caused this type of damage to the area above the rockshaft bushings. Both sides of the housing have these "less than attractive" patches. Also the bottom support for the lift cylinder has been repaired. I'm debating on whether or not to remove them and inspect further. Has anyone else seen one with cracks in this area?

Thanks to Case Nutty for the correction about the eagle hitch's having down pressure. I need to get out and spend more time on the old stuff!

Why didn't you post pics of the damage to the rest of the tractor in your first post. The reason for the rockshaft damage would have been obvious then. You are like all the news reports on TV. Report only half the news to create drama and controversy.

I'm not so sure about previous damage. How about the possibility the housing is pre-Eagle Hitch, and it was modified to accept the Rock Shaft? I say this, because of the welding done at the base of the Live PTO Handle Shaft. Look closely.

Serial # is 5605608. Plate and engine block match. Live pto, eagle hitch, but still has hand clutch. Also take a look at these two other welds, one is about 4 inches long extending from the left side clutch hand hole and going down. The other is on the goose neck for the wide front. I'm 3rd owner, so no telling what caused these cracks, maybe off into a ditch or something. Welds are holding but I'll clean them up a bit. I have another goose neck I'll put on.

After seeing your second set of pics. I would expect that your tractor suffered from a violent run-a-way crash, or rollover.

I would say that damage was indeed caused by the system being ran in locked or non-float position and the tractor going up and down and applying enough downforce to break the top of the housings repeatedly, this was for sure part of why the down pressue and non-float position was done away with
